Increase Creativity A-Z W Is For Widescreen- Is A Narrow Creative Vision Blocking Your Creativity?

How ambitious are you in your creative life? What kind of visions do you have for where youd like to be creatively in 1 year, 3 years and 5 years time?

Is your creative vision as wide, colourful, loud and highly sensory as a multiplex cinema screen showing the latest blockbuster movie?

Or is it more like watching repeats from years ago on a black and white portable TV?

If you dont dare to dream big with your creativity, its unlikely youll ever get close to creating what you really want to create, and to reaching your true creative potential.

Yes of course there are times when a narrow focus is exactly what you need to move forward on a particular creative project. By putting on the blinkers and cutting out distractions you can make major progress in a short space of time.

But thats a different issue. What were looking at here is your vision for your creative life.

By visualising where youd like to be in your creative life at specific times in the future, you can get a much clearer idea of where youre heading and how youre going to get there.

By writing down your future creative vision in all its widescreen detailed glory you give your creative mind permission to start coming up with all the ways you can move closer to it.

It wont happen overnight, but by having that clear vision and keeping it present and visible, then step by step youll get closer.

Here are 5 of the most valuable areas you can focus on.

Get a pen and paper, allocate some time where you wont be distracted and answer as fully and honestly as you can.

1. Where do you want to be creating? Do you want your own studio, workshop or gallery? Will you be in an environment that stimulates your creativity to new levels?

2. How often do you create? Is it full time career? Is it weekend and evening hobby? How much time to you spend actually creating and how much on supporting activities?

3. Who are you? What beliefs do you have that have enabled you to get this far? What personal strengths and qualities have helped you to keep progressing?

4. Who can help you on your creative journey? Who can offer you genuine support? Who can you support? Who can you collaborate and share ideas with?

5. Why do you create what you create? What drives you, what keeps calling you back to create? How do you feel when youve created something youre pleased with?

By answering these questions youll have a much clearer vision of how you want your creative life to be.

Revisit the questions every month or two, then compare with previous answers to see how youre moving forward. Its amazing how once youve got that compelling widescreen vision progress towards it becomes rapid.

Creatively Stuck? 3 Ways To Instantly Get Unstuck And Be More Creative

Getting stuck is something that happens to all of us who create.

That feeling that a creative project is slipping away from us and creating goes from feeling like walking on water without a care in the world, to trying to dance in slowly setting toffee. With your shoelaces tied together!

So what can you do when you start to feel stuck?

How can you get unstuck and creative again before you come to a complete standstill?

Here are 3 different ways you can use:

1. Change mediums. If youre writing on a keyboard and start to feel those shoes getting a little heavier, try switching to a different medium. Often when Im developing new articles and courses, I feel myself slowing down and getting confused, losing focus on the way through. So I close my laptop, go back to basics and get out a large piece of blank paper and a pot of coloured pens.

Theres nothing quite like the feel of putting pen to paper, and using colours and sketching and writing ideas in a non-linear way is a great way to help you unlock new ideas and find a different way to organise the project you were working on. When youve got your new ideas and direction, return back to typing.

You can make this kind of change to a different creative medium whatever your main creative form is. Just that simple change in medium can be very powerful in unlocking your creativity and enabling you to see things in a different light.

2. Change your physiology. Sometimes its being in the same position physically for a long time that can lead to your creative ideas and flow drying up. By changing your physiology and surroundings, you also change your perspective.

This can be as simple as standing and having a few stretches if youve been sitting for a while. Or maybe you need to take a walk around the block. Or have a quick dance. Whatever it is, make it something that changes your physical position, as this always then leads to a change in your creative thinking.

3. Visualise possible futures. This works especially well if youre in the midst of a larger creative project and feel youre losing sight of the end, or the outcome. Often its the creative process that is more important - and more enjoyable than the end result, Im not saying you should have a fixed outcome in mind every time.

But by visualising how the project might evolve, you can try on different outfits for size and see how they fit your project.

Stop, sit somewhere comfortable, close your eyes and just visualise how you think the project might evolve. Dont try to force it, just let the pictures, sounds and feelings appear. Then, when you return to your project youll have a fresh perspective and be more clear about which direction to take your project in next.

These are all useful ways to get yourself creatively unstuck when you feels your steps are getting heavy.

Which can start to apply today in a creative project youre stuck with?

Strategy 1 - You Got To Have A Dream!

Do you remember being a child? Children know how to dream. They dont have any stumbling blocks. They dont know the words, I cant. The world is full of unlimited possibilities. If you ask a child what he/she is going to be when grown up, chances are the child will answer without hesitation a doctor, a teacher, a fire fighter, or a police officer. They know of nothing that could prevent them from becoming what they want to be. And yet, many 18 year olds enter college without a clue as to what they want to be when they grow up. What happens to the dreams of the 6 year-old child? Where do they go? How are they lost?

On January 11, 1949, Irene Thompson gave birth to a stillborn female child. A nurse informed the father as the doctor said a prayer and baptized the lifeless child. As the doctor prayed, the child showed definite signs of life. Even though the child was alive, it was not expected to live through the night. That child was named Linda, who is now 57 years-old and is writing this article. Of course there were effects caused by the lack of oxygen to the brain. I was diagnosed about 18 months later as having a condition known as cerebral palsy, which affects the muscle movements in both my legs and arms, as well as my neck. But I was alive and that was all that mattered to my mother. She was determined I would have as much of a life as my sister and brother before me. And she made sure I understood that.

From the 40s through the 60s, people with disabilities were hidden from society Children with disabilities were bussed to segregated schools. There were no inclusion or mainstreaming programs. If a child made it through the eighth gradeas far as the schools for the disabled wenthe was sent home until he was old enough to go to a sheltered workshop where he would be paid 10 cents an hour to separate and count nuts and bolts. There was no public access to high schools or colleges. A person with a disability was not expected to become a productive member of society.

My mother was light years ahead when it came to visualizing the possibilities in my life. She drove positive affirmations into me, You can do anything you put your mind to, If you dont succeed, try, try, try again, and Anything is possible. She made me feel if I wanted something bad enough and was willing to work hard, I could accomplish anything.

When I was eight, we drove my older sister to her dorm room at Kent State University. I was impressed and excited as I blurted out to my mother, Do you think I can come to Kent State someday? I was oblivious to the roadblocks that stood between me and that possibility, but I am sure mom knew what they were. Not wanting to destroy my dream, she answered, Anything is possible.

I graduated from high school in 1967one roadblock downbut there were very few universities in the country that accepted students with disabilities and none were in Ohio. However, five years later, in 1972, Kent State University established a program to support students with disabilities. I started at KSU in the fall of 72 and graduated with a journalism degree in 1975.

If you dont have a dream, find a safe place, search for the child within you, ask your childself what he/she wants to be or do when it grows up. If you rediscover your dream, hold on to it and dont let anyone steal it from you. Like the song from South Pacific says, You have to have a dream. If you dont have a dream, how you going to make a dream come true?

Linda Thompson, MSRC, has 30 years professional experience serving people with disabilities as instructor and advocate. As a keynote speaker, she addresses audiences of parents, professionals, care providers, students, congregations, and business administrators/employers on the importance of recognizing the individual and abilities rather than the “labels” of disabilities. “People with disabilities are people first. Our disabilities are second.” http://www.empoweringusall.com -

Creative Sensuality - Get The Most From Your 5 Senses To Enrich Your Creative Work

Think of a scent that sends you back to your childhood in an instant, like the smell of boot polish your dad used to clean his shoes each morning, your mothers best special night out perfume, or the warm fragrance of tomato plants in your grandfathers greenhouse.

We experience the world through our 5 senses, theyre the channels through which we receive the details of the environment around us.

Being more aware of our senses, noticing the subtleties and quirks of both the exotic and the familiar, helps us not only have a more vivid and stimulating life, but also enriches our creative work, how we express our creativity and how effectively we connect with others.

Another example: You might hear a song that reminds you of your teenage years and a first love, those awkward but heady first exchanges behind the cinema on a Saturday night. Or the train signal unique to the local railways where you used to stay with your aunt and uncle every summer.

Each of us have vivid memories and feelings connected with certain senses.

So the best way to make your creative art evocative and connect with others is to draw on these senses as much as possible.

You dont always have to draw on sensual details of the past either.

Much of the time its the quest for the new that drives an artist forward to pushing the boundaries of what they create, sometimes challenging the limits of what ANYONE has created before in a particular medium.

This is how we get the creative pioneers that lead the way in their creative form, setting new expectations and opening new avenues for those that go after them.

Think about some of your favourite artists and the art thats particularly moved and inspired you.

Which artists and artwork has made you FEEL most, and has connected with you most deeply?

Which art and artists have taken your breath away and redefined what you thought was possible in creating?

Think about either of these the art thats moved you most and the art thats blown away your expectations of what you thought was possible and youll find they draw heavily on your senses.

Whether its a poem, painting or piece of music, the connection the way it makes you feel more alive is what makes it such an important piece of work for you.

Think about your own creative work. What pieces have you felt have most effectively connected with peoples senses?

Which creative projects for you have best expressed a certain time or a certain feeling youve wanted to express?

Its all the senses. An artist without a strong awareness of their senses is like a pianist trying to play piano without their hands or a dancer trying to express their dance without moving a muscle.

Remember this each time you create, and aim to tap into your audiences feelings and emotions as deeply as possibly through each of their 5 senses.

Your creative work can be as sensual, evocative and vivid as you want to make it.

Create Through the Imagination

I invite you to come on a journey into your imagination to create a positive dream for your life.

I would like to take you on a creative journey into the imagination. Let your awareness settle down and become quite. Think of your favourite place, where you feel safe and secure. I am going to use the example of a log cabin, which I have visited on many occasions.

In your minds eye start to create the image of this friendly place, which can be either real or imaginary, it does not matter for this exercise. Use all your senses to create the image; smell the damp woods that surround the log cabin, hear the lapping of the waves on the lake outside the front door. Feel the warmth from the wood burning stove and taste the saliva in your mouth in anticipation of the lovely meal, which is cooking on the stove. See the lovely scene in front of you: a log cabin full of your favourite things, the lake surrounded by forests with snow-capped mountains in the distance.

This is a very peaceful place, a place that you come to create and plan. Sit down in the rocking chair on the porch and take your awareness within.

Allow your awareness to dream of anything that feels it will bring great joy and happiness to you. This is a place where everything is possible, there is truly no restrictions, use your powers of visualisation to create a picture in your mind of you following your dream.

This may be a new dream or one you have had all your life. Give yourself the freedom to dream it now in this safe place; it will be different for each one of you. This is a very personal create experience.

Use all your senses and run the creative process like watching a movie, see yourself in the movie playing the lead role. If you like, close your eyes for a few minutes and watch your dream unfold enjoy the experience and bring in all the resources and friends you need to help you with this project. Experience it on all the levels of your feeling.

If at any time you feel a lack or a feeling of fear, allow your awareness to rest on your breathing and take a few seconds just being conscious of the breath as it enters and leaves your body.

Know that you can come to this place whenever you like. You can create in perfect freedom without restriction or limitation. Just give yourself the freedom to dream consciously using the imagination and visualisation.

Then when you are happy with your creation, allow it to melt into the silence of this place, release the dream completely and rest in the rocking chair. After a little while slowly open your eyes and become aware of the log cabin again and the beautiful seen in front of you. Slowly rise out of the rocking chair and start to walk back to the here and now.

Become aware of your normal surroundings and reconnect with your daily activity.

You can return to this place and dream whenever you want just by using your imagination. Have awareness in your daily activity of any opportunities that may come up to help you come nearer to realising your dream.

Thank you for coming on this journey with me into the realms of imagination and the creative process of visualisation.

To be a good creative writer, therefore, you have to be a keen observer of events, people and places.Basically, two types of imaginations are involved in the cr...

Awaken Your Creative Imagination

Imagine Yourself As …
Imagine yourself as a deep sea diver, a ballroom dancer, a professional athlete, a famous artist, or whatever you cant imagine. No, that is not me, your timid little voice inside your head escapes into your conscious thoughts. Awareness through Creativity

Creative self-exploration is an amazingly insightful experience, which can help you get in touch with your subconscious and bring clarity into feelings and thoughts that may be holding you back.

Many people walk into my painting workshops wondering what they are getting themselves into. Yet they arrive open and ready for the experience. We begin painting with the opposing hand, paper, and anything but a paintbrush. To allow the right side of the brain to play more freely, our first paintings are done without the use of words or intentional symbols.

After we finish each painting, I ask them How do you feel? What feelings came up for you as you were doing this?

By the fourth painting some of the students are in tears of release. Others have discovered the freedom of exploring their inner world without being hindered by their left brained judgemental side.

In the final painting we set an intent, whether it is a happy moment or a painful time in their lives. They continue applying paint with their opposing hand, exploring further into themselves. After half an hour we talk about their experiences. My students are always amazed at where the workshop has taken them. Some of them work through their grief for deceased loved ones. Others are able to let go of a fear that plagued them for many years. Others discover new joy and appreciation for themselves.

Kate attended a one-on-one healing session. She was feeling frustrated with her inner critic. As I guided her through the process she began to see something she hadnt seen before. The face of her critic had appeared in the tree of her painting.

As we explored this further, Kate was able to see how she gave her power to her inner critic. As she continued to paint through her feelings of powerlessness, she was able to see how powerful she really was. Kate walked out of her session with a healthier understanding of her critic; she felt such a sense of joy and freedom. I have been in contact with Kate since her session and I am happy to say she has found a sense of freedom within her she had never experienced before.

Some people ask, How can creativity get me in touch with my feelings? Using the opposing hand calls upon the right brainthe feeling intuitive side, not the more linear left side. The creative experience opens us up, allowing our unconscious thoughts and feelings to unfold through the act of painting. Imagine your mind is like an ice burg; consciously, only 15% is visible above the water. Creative exploration taps into the hidden 85% and helps us bring more awareness into our lives.

A gentle exercise

You will need:

Paper
Medium of your choice (pastels, pencils, paint).

Create a space where you are not going to be disturbed for an hour or so if you like you could light a candle make a pot of tea and light some incense.

Take 3 deep breaths. As you inhale, feel the breath move down all the way to your toes. As you breathe out, release any tension.

Now focus on something that is bothering yourwork, relationships or health. Before you begin painting set an intent such as: My intent is to explore and gain clarity on my health issues.

Now, using your opposing hand, allow yourself to just make marks and let the feelings out onto your paper. When you feel you are finished, ask yourself. How do I feel? What do the colours represent? Are the marks heavy or light?

For instance: Sometimes when I paint I may see a lot of anger around health issues. In the next painting I will ask for clarity with the anger and what it is doing to me. If I still need more clarity, I go into left and right hand writing, asking a question with my normal writing hand and responding with my opposing hand.

Example:

Normal hand: I am really feeling angry and I am having trouble finding out why can you assist me?

Opposing hand: I have had enough of how you are treating me. You always sit around and put horrible food in me and I have had enough.

Normal hand: Im sorry. I didnt know you felt this way. What can I do to help you?

Opposing hand: I need more water, more life force food; more walking; more love.

Continue painting and writing as long as you feel the need to explore this issue to gain more clarity. Journaling about your explorations and the paintings themselves will also give you further insights.

Creative exploration is such a gentle way of healing, just remember to be open and let go allowing the process to guide you. I have healed my migraines and still work on my anxiety issues using creative exploration.

Creativity - From Purpose to Significance
One of my life research (and meditation) tasks has always been to align or find coherence in the variety of expressions of inner and outward creativity. On the other hand is the original and useful...

Creative Success: The Razor Thin Line Between Achieving And Not Achieving Your Creative Ambitions

Creative Success is so much closer than you realise. In fact its just one simple step away.

Before you turn away in disbelief, consider this:

Your personal idea and vision of success in your creative life is unique to you.

It cant be decided by anyone else.

Even if you have role models or creative heroes you look up to, what you achieve creatively in your life has never been achieved by anyone before you and will never be achieved by anyone after you.

Its uniquely yours and there for the taking.

Whether you choose to take it though, and how much you take, how much success you experience, depends entirely on one thing.

Its the same razor thin line thats the difference between success and failure, achieving and not achieving, in any other area of life.

So what is this one single crucial element?

Consistent Action.

You can be one of the most wonderful, creative and imaginative people that ever lived, and have a endless cascade of incredible ideas and innovations tumbling through your mind, but without taking action on them, they mean very little.

Think of a few of your favourite writers, musicians, or other artists in creative fields youre involved in.

The fact that youre aware of their work is because they took action with their creativity.

At some point they picked up a pen, sat down at a piano, or stepped up to a waiting canvas and took the brave step of putting the creative ideas in their minds down into a recordable form.

And, with some persistence, once theyd documented their creative ideas in this way, they took further action to get their art, their creative work, out into the world. Which is how you came across them.

Now consider this:

What if for every great artist you admire, there are a dozen others, equally talented, ambitious and potentially creative in their own way, just waiting to put their dormant creativity into some recorded form?

Its quite possible. In fact more than that, its highly likely.

The difference between the artists we know and admire and those we dont know, who may be equally talented, and whos work may be just as capable of stirring our souls and leaving us rapt in awe, is again down to that one razor thin line.

They take action and create. Or they dont.

So, how do you fit in to this scale? Which side of the razors edge are you on? Or maybe youre currently tiptoeing right along it, on the brink of taking major, significant action?

Whether that action is the creating itself, or taking steps to get what youve already created out to an appreciative audience, I challenge you to take that action today. Right away.

Write that chapter, phone that magazine editor. Mix that song, put it up on online. Frame that photo collection, contact those galleries.

It may sound simplistic, but ultimately consistent action is the only way to creative success.

The choice is yours. What are you going to do?

Increase Creativity A-Z- S Is For Space- How Your Own Creative Space Is Essential To Your Creativity

Do you always create in the same place?

Do you have somewhere you go to, where all your tools for creating are set up, somewhere that inspires you and makes it more easy for you to create?

If you dont then you could be seriously stunting your creativity, and missing out on one of the crucial elements of a healthy creative life.

We already experience enough resistance to creating, both externally from other people and internally from our own negative thoughts and doubts. So anything we can do to make the act of going to create as easy as it possibly can be is incredibly valuable.

How is your creative work space set up right now? How does it help you create more easily?

Few of us are lucky enough to have a whole studio or room we can have set up 24 hours a day with our creative equipment.

So if we dont have this luxury, what we can we do as the next best thing?

Quite a number of things.

So here are 5 top tips to get you started in defining your own personal creative space:

1. Find an area of room, a desk, even just a chair you can go to to create. You want to have somewhere thats just yours, even if it is just a corner of a room. Defining this boundary and this space as your creative area will allow you, when you go to it, to know that its time to get creating.

2. Make your creative space as inspiring as possible for you to create. For you this might mean having pale walls, candles and soft lighting. It might mean loads of pictures stuck up and vivid colours wherever you look to fire your creative juices. Experiment and find a surrounding that works best for you.

3. Have your creative tools and equipment ready to use. The aim is to be able to go to your creative space and create as easily as possible. So do all you can to make sure your tools and supplies are set up for you to create and everything you need is close to hand.

4. Make it clearly YOUR creative space. Do what you need to to make this your personal space, not anyone elses. This again will make it easy for you to go there and create easily, without worrying about disrupting anyone elses stuff.

5. Let the people around you know about your creative space. While we can all work with some distraction around, we can do a lot to minimise it. Let the people you live with know about your creative space and how important it is for you to be able to focus there for a short time each day. Respect their privacy and passions and theyll respect yours.

By using these 5 tips, you can ensure your creative space is somewhere you look forward to going to, and somewhere special to you where you can create as easily as possible.

Do all you can to allow your creativity to flow freely in your personal creative space and youll see the positive impact it can have on your creativity in a very short time.

An Idea or Concept Perceived by Act May Be More Powerful Than One Created From Thought?

Ideas, inventions, innovations and concepts are something that humans hold at a high value. Ideas or concepts that are perceived or born of an act or an event generally hold a more powerful imprint in the mind than a human idea or concept which is created from only a thought. This is due to the fact that humans tend to visualize ideas and concepts in their minds, thus if they see it or observe it, then it makes a more lasting impression.

This is not to say that ideas are not generated by pure thoughts, as we all know they are however when one experiences an event and observes it from a very personal level and then gets an idea from that event; perhaps the innovation is a different method of doing something, then that concept or idea will prove to be more powerful to them. This might propel their innovation and motivate them quicker than merely a thought that pops into their mind while thinking.

Indeed this might be a very good case for virtual reality experiences to help people get ideas or concepts by putting them into an experience and allowing them to observe something rather than going to the trouble to create a scenario or situation to get them into a mode of abstract thought which will be needed to create an idea or concept.

I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.
