Planning A Holiday - The Essentials (Part 2)

Continues from part 1 planning a holiday; the essentials Please read that article first.

If you are travelling further a field then you may have many more factors to consider, such as inoculations, extra cover, etc. More far flung destinations, such as Africa for example, still have diseases such as malaria that are especially prevalent. It is also recommended that you should be inoculated against other diseases such as; Yellow fever, Typhoid, Hepatitis A, Polio (may already be covered) and others your doctor may recommend. It is important to note; both Typhoid and Hepatitis A can be caught from contaminated food and water. Wherever possible, use bottled/boiled water, avoid raw or under cooked food, such as shellfish, salads and fruit. Ensure you have insect repellent in both the form of a spray and a plug in unit for the room you are to sleep in.

If you are to be pursuing an adventure or activities holiday, you should seek insurance that covers for dangerous activities. Examples such as climbing, water sports and bungee jumping (even a safari trip) will make you a much higher risk to the insurance company and therefore they will most probably not cover you on a standard policy. Another grey area many travellers may find themselves taking part in is scuba diving. It is important to check that this will be covered under your policy as not all insurers provide cover for this as standard.

You should still be able to find a cheap travel insurance policy if you are internet savvy and use a comparison site for example. This will help you find the cheapest quote to meet your circumstances. Another thing to consider is the number of times you intend to travel within a year, if you are going to travel 2-3 times, a multi-trip policy will save you money. If you are a frequent traveller you may well save much more money by taking out an annual travel insurance policy. If you are in any doubt as to which one to go for; try finding a single trip policy price then multiply this by the number of times you will be travelling in said year. With this figure in mind get a quote for a multi trip or annual policy and see how much money you will save.

Another important factor to consider, especially when travelling by long haul flights is; DVT (deep vein thrombosis) this is where a blood clot is formed in the veins of the lower legs due to thickening of the blood, caused by air pressure/lack of movement and worsened by dehydration. You can help to combat this by drinking plenty of water, exercising your legs/ankles (most airline now have instructional videos) and taking a walk down the aisle every now and again.

When planning your trip, to whatever location, it is prudent to carry out some research online and find out any requirements and essentials you may need. Once you are fully prepared you can look forward to and enjoy your well deserved holiday!

Finding cheap travel insurance is not as difficult as it may sound. If you are internet savvy and willing to spend a little time and effort, you will be rewarded.

Save money by applying for the best policy to suit your circumstances. Consider a multi-trip policy for more frequent travelling or an annual travel insurance policy, you should save money in the process.
